WEEK TEN
Overview:
This was a very exciting week at school and for me outside of school.  The school launched a new program where all the student get Ipads for the school year.  This last week was devoted to training the teachers and students how to use these as tools in education.  This week in Skudeneshavn there was the annual SILK festival, celebrating international literature.  Several great Authors gave presentations at our school as well as their talks and book readings in town.  I was even able to meet the lovely Sarah McIntyre, a prominent children's author and illustrator born in Seattle.  Outside of  the classroom I was able to tour the adorable town of Skudeneshavn and see some of the rest of the Island Karmøy

Activity Highlights:
In the Classroom
iPads iThoughts, Book Creator, and Explain Everything are three of the great educational Apps we practiced using this week.  Each one has a lot of awesome uses for aiding in learning through teacher and student use.  IThoughts provides an amazing platform for presenting material and for organizing thinking.  Book Creator and Explain Everything are both apps with lots of impressive features that make sharing knowledge fun and easy.

Out of the Classroom

The weather here is quite reminiscent of that back in the Pacific North West.  I feel at home among the grey skies and appreciate the rare glimpses of sun through the clouds.  There have also been one of two truly beautiful clear blue days.  (pic)
There is a lovely little park in the Heart of Skudenes that hosts beautiful rocky trails, a gorgeous viewpoint and the famous Moonstone!  I have was able to explore the winding, climbing paths on a fairly nice day early in the week.
